What a time we are living in. What a season we are in. Almost everything is defined by size, money, and PROFIT. Unfortunately, ministry and the gospel is not excluded, many people are here profiteering from the gospel of Christ.

But there is nothing new in this. From the time of Apostle Paul, people have been peddling (marketing) the word for profit (personal gain), – he was in fact speaking about them in 2 Corinthians 2:17, “Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.” NIV. Again, there are still people doing it today.

I am reminded of the Prophet who in the name of anointing duped an old man, a retired government staff of 1 million Naira (life savings), he was making a way for the son to go to Canada 🇨🇦 🙄🙄🙄. Or the pastor that destroyed a family because of riches. Must we continue?

Dear Minister, peddling the word doesn’t have to be that obvious; it includes raising monies with ‘God said” when He has said nothing, selling oils and mantles that God didn’t commission, bullying people to submission, prophesying for gains, and dishonest interpretations of scriptures,amongst others.

There is among God’s pastors, evangelists, and other spiritual leaders a minority whose handling of God’s holy Word can accurately be described, not in my words, but in the apostle Paul’s words as:

• peddling the word of God for profit

• hustling the word of God to make a profit

• making merchandise of the word of God

• hucksters who preach for personal profit

All of us who love Jesus and His Word should be lamenting any occurrences of this same shameful practice in the Church today. And we must never be part of the ravenous wolves that seeks to milk the sheep to death – for these according to Peter and Jude;

“They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness.” 2 Peter 2:15.

“[About ungodly infiltrators into the church:] Woe to them! …they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error.” Jude 1:11.

Dear Minister, ask yourself, what is the motive behind my every action? What is fueling you? Search yourself daily for many people don’t start out as peddlers, they just soon become peddlers.

There is life truth in the words of Paul, ‘those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires…’ The devil is seeking the heart of many, and he will stop at nothing, he will dangle freebies, fuel greed and seek to subvert you in your ways. But you must be on your guard. Never, ever think ‘that godliness is a means to financial gain’ (1 Tim 6:5).

God’s ministers — in fact, all of us — would do well to take heed to this apostolic warning. In closing my 33rd Letter to you, it is my prayer that may the Holy Spirit give you wisdom to align yourselves with godly spiritual leaders who love Jesus and His Word, honor the local church, and never show inclinations to preach, market, or peddle God’s Word for profit. Amen!

Your Greatness is Assured
